Warren Police to Introduce New Police K-9 Team Wednesday, April 25 at 10 a.m. at City Hall

Warren police will introduce the department’s new K-9 team Wednesday, April 25 at 10 a.m. at Warren City Hall.

The members of the new K-9 include:

Officer Brandon Roy and Kantor

Officer Andrew Koerner and Rita

Officer Todd Benczkowski and Alfa

Officer Jeremy Kenyon and Astra

“Each of the canines and their handlers have undergone 14 weeks of rigorous training in order to receive certification in several areas including the detection of narcotics, area searches, and the tracking of individuals.  They are assigned to the Road Patrol Division performing patrol duties and answering calls for service while being available to respond to an emergency at a moment’s notice,” said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts.

Mayor Fouts praised Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer for initiating the K-9 team.  “Commissioner Dwyer is an innovator.  Not only did he begin the K-9 team, but he also organized the Citizens Police Academy, re-organized the police patrol, upgraded communications/dispatch center and new light-weight body armor for officers,” said the Mayor, adding that the Commissioner Dwyer innovations have made Warren “a safer city.”

Another Dwyer initiative is P.A.I.D. (People Against Illegal Drugs) which rewards residents with $500 each for information leading to a search warrant and arrest involving illegal drug sales from a Warren residence.

Operation P.A.I.D. was launched in October of 2017.  In the first week, the program resulted in a drug house being shut down and the dealer arrested.  Since then, 161 tips have been received resulting in 8 search warrants and 18 arrests.

Commissioner Dwyer stated, “The addition of this K-9 team will enhance the great work performed each and every day by the men and women of the Warren Police Department, providing the best police service possible to the citizens of Warren.”
